When Dr. Avila was a senior in dental school, a patient shared that they were diagnosed with a dental problem called Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD aka TMJ). During his four years of advanced dental training, Dr. Avila had never heard of TMD. This began a frustrating, challenging, and exciting journey for him.
Using his natural ability for fixing things, Dr. Avila learned a predictable way of fixing TMD pain.
Dr. Avila is involved in significant research regarding TMD treatment. Currently, he is involved in determining if off-label use of a medication provides predictable relief of TMD pain as well as research making TMD diagnoses easier and more predictable.
When Dr. Avila has a peculiar happy glow, those are the days a patient who has been suffering from head pains for years has found significant relief and has been released from treatment.
